The Reverend Louis M. Kelly is the distinguished pastor of the historic Seaton Memorial African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Lanham, Maryland.
Rev. Kelly was raised in Philadelphia, PA. He attended the public schools there and graduated from Overbrook High School. He attended and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1977 and earned a M.Ed. in Special Education in 1978. Rev. Kelly moved to the Washington DC Metropolitan area in 1978 where he began his career as a special education teacher in the Alexandria, Virginia City Public Schools.
Rev. Kelly first joined the AME Church in 1983 under Pastors Rev. Drs. Grainger and Joanne Browning at Ebenezer AME Church Ft. Washington, MD. In 1994 “Louis Kelly” left Ebenezer to assist Rev. Eugene Radcliff establish Cornerstone AME Church in Pomonkey and Indian Head, MD.
Rev. Kelly was licensed to preach in the African Methodist Episcopal Church under residing Elder Emeritus Rev. Dr. George A. Manning in 1998. He graduated in 2005 with a M. Div. from Virginia Union University, Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology. While there, he was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
Rev. Kelly served as the Director of Christian Education for the Potomac for six years. In that capacity he also served as the Potomac District Registrar for the Youth Summit in Hampton, VA. Rev. Kelly has also served under incredible and anointed Pastors that have helped shape his ministry. He has served as interim Pastor at Gethsemane AME in Bowie, MD for two years while Pastor Barbara Harmon was recuperating from a stroke. Rev. Kelly then moved to Campbell AME where he served under Rev. Dr. Roger Hall Reed until Dr. Reed was appointed to pastor Ward Memorial AME. Dr. Reed mentored Rev. Kelly in AME Doctrine, Polity and the art of preaching. Rev. Kelly continued to serve at Campbell under Rev. Daryl Kearney until he received his first pastoral appointment to Ebenezer Charlotte Hall. Rev. Kelly served at Ebenezer Charlotte Hall for two and a half years and was appointed during the Mid-Year Conference to New Liberation AME. He served there for two years and was appointed to Ebenezer Brunswick in 2017 where he and his wife enjoy the love, support and fellowship of the greatest people this side of heaven.
Rev. Kelly was appointed to Seaton Memorial at the 2025 Second Episcopal District of the AME Church Summer Summit.
Rev. Kelly has been married to the “Only Lady” Sheila Long Kelly since 1990. They have an adult son, an adult daughter and five beautiful grandchildren Kenilia, Eli, Journi, Kennedy and Kori.
